"Ah, silence..."
The mountain! This place that we cherish where everything is calm and delightful, far from the bustle of the city. You can recharge your batteries and let off steam, especially as a mountain biker. But what are the rules to ensure that you have a good time without hurting the neighbor, the groundhog or the chamois? Read our Guide and its 8 essential rules of respect in the mountains.
8 rules to follow in the mountains (especially when riding a mountain bike)
1 – Respect the mountain and its fragile ecosystem:
Picking up your trash is one of the most common and repeated notions these days, and yet… Plastic and other waste is constantly found in nature. Respect the natural areas. The only trail you are allowed to leave is the one of your tires on the trails!
2 – Respect your bike:
The VTTAE, especially those used in our school, are precious machines, whose every little component must be handled with care and respect.
- When you take a break, place your bike gently on the ground, resting on its pedal and handlebars.
- Shifting gears should be smooth (accelerate slightly and then slow down before changing gears to avoid chain slap).
- Stop if you feel the mechanism is forcing in a wrong way.
- Do not attempt to wash or repair the bike yourself, except if you know precisely what to do.
- Contact us if you have any doubts.
- Remember that the bike is your responsibility (see Marmotte Futée Insurance)
3 – Respect the others:
The mountain is to be shared. We do not enjoy the outdoors at the same pace whether we are walking, biking or riding… Slow down when you pass by other users, especially walkers. out of respect and to avoid the projection of stones.
4 – Self-respect:
Give yourself time to get to know your bike, to take it in hand, to avoid injury. If you are already a mountain biker, beware, an ATV is not a simple ATV, the engine may surprise you. Stay humble and give yourself a few minutes to test the bike.
5 – Respect for pastures:
The mountain bike routes are designed in agreement with all users. Some trails pass through agricultural or cow/sheep fields/etc. Take the time to close a fence if you have opened it, slow down near farms or houses. And if you see moutain dogs (sheep keepers),Don’t panic. Get off the bike and walk away calmly. They can take their protection mission really to heart…
6 – Respect for local residents:
When you take a breath of fresh air you feel liberated and sometimes alone in the world: finally you can breathe! But if the place is so calm and relaxing, it must remain so even during your visit. Don’t yell when passing near houses because if everyone does that, no one will feel calm anymore. And again: slow down, think of the projections of stones.
7 – Attention, hunting zone!
On hunting days, stay on the marked trails, wear colorful clothing, and report yourself if you have any doubts.
8 – Beware of “thieving magpies”:
When you take a break, lock your ATV. Bicycle theft has become commonplace, even in the mountains. (PS: The attached padlock is a prerequisite for the guarantee “Marmotte Futée”works).
